Microsoft Solution Framework
(MSF) has been chosen by BluWater as a process model for application
development
- MSF is based on Milestones, which are review and synchronization
points (not freeze points)
- Allows for full visibility & synchronization of deliverables
with all project stakeholders
Process Principles include
- Using versioned releases
- Scheduling for unforeseen contingencies
- Internal Ship Date and External Ship date (with buffer)
- Risk driven scheduling
- Encourages early proof-of-concept prototypes
- Determines which features will be shipped and when
- Prioritizes tasks based on technical and business
risks
- Lets developers aggressively shoot for early milestones
- Signals a warning if the early milestone is missed
- Managing Trade-offs (resources, schedule, features)
- Managing risk
- Maintaining a fixed ship-date mindset
- Componentizing large projects into manageable parts
- Performing daily builds
